Question to people who have been around longer than I
Every so often I flip through my manual to make sure I run stuff that has
a FEEL like the book.
The more I do it, the more I see why there is such a penchant for changing
the book to fit what people want of the campaign. Some I see as good,
some silly, and some over the top.
I think a big part of the desire to change so much about stems from the
fact that the campaign setting(s) and the book don't really jibe any more,
not that there are big, sweeping elements of the dice-rolling part of the
game that are in dire need of an overhaul.
Now, I wasn't around when Lojem Island was creatively put together.
However, on a smaller scale, I was part of putting together Targonne Bluff
(one of the inescapibly disappearing newbie jump points).
Here's what happened:
The GMs involved got together.
Over the span of 2-3 lunches, the basics of the newbie game were
hashed out, including the setting, major locations, major
and supporting characters, etc.
The particulars were left deliberately sketchy, save a handful of
specific locales (that could be used as fodder for the
live action)
Bang! The setting was ready, and the newbies could play.
Now, the questions I've got are:
1) With the success of Centralia, and to some extents Adaleia and
Geleia, is it feesable, with unified GM effort, to bring Rugtero up to
Karfelon weight in the game setting? Why/Why not?
2) Is there interest out there in running adventures with an
underlying goal of re-building the sea wall? Why/Why not?
3) Are there retired characters and GM actors out there that can
contribute to rebuilding this setting, and that may be made public domain
so all GM's running Rugtero can use them?
4) Would it be possible to write summaries of adventures within a
week or two of them being run so they may be posted to the list? At the
very least, an account of what was done in town so that GM's can work
other adventures into the background of the ones they run?
Example, Either the Hellfire Club, or the Spec Meteor was blown up about a
month (real time) ago. I've heard both. Which one is it? Who has dibs
on the property? Who was killed? Is there a reward or bounty out there
for information? etc.
5) The Onivero ... what happened to them? I've never even heard of
them being used in a game. The book seems to say they come to town every
now and again for trade, have big farms out in the ocean that everyone can
see for miles thanks to their big, reflective solar sails, etc.
6) How do we bring them back? Have they gone Xenophobe? Can we
include a "bermuda triangle" sort of area where they still control the
waters? Has Jaern re-risen to rally his people in unified strength so
that a planet-wide rule by might may be re-constructed?
7) Does anyone give a rat's ass about any of the above?
Now, I'm all for free player will, and all that. This is why I'm asking
the GM list. Last I saw, very few players were interested in running
archetects or city planners. What do we want to do about Rugtero/Lojem?
How can we do it in a series of adventures that CAN get the players
involved?
