I think the Arty skill states that that's the cap, as I said, it's more or
less right there in the book, just under another skill.

Again, Arty's nonspecific, probibally GM discression as the write up is
for multiple pieces of hardware, though truth be told, I've seen more bows
break from dry firing(2) than bow strings(0), but I've not fired one in
years, and only used them briefly at high school.

Another nitpick, the MWskill specifically says only ONE aspect of the
skill can be used/round. Without removing that condition (and I'm sure
it's there for a reason) you could pop for range OR for precision.

Saints preserve us, Steve & I agree ;)
The only reason I think it's a more viable alternative is that it already
exists within the system, but under a different skill. However, if the
REALLY BIG crossbow can be cranked for range, than would it be possible to
do so in a similar manner for the man-portable variety. I think so.
I also didn't mean to state that all bow ranges should be halved, blame it
on lack of sleep and being the most easy example to whip out. I didn't do
the work to consider what the ranges on the bows SHOULD BE (as I presume
Wright did) 'cause their Wright's stuff. (any NKOTB humming/singing along
will be greeted with an armed response).
I think they should be cut down a bit (perhaps 20-33%) but not halved.
Example, if they're cut to 2/3 range, a 2d6 check would put them back out
to their currently printed range.
As far as quickdraw vs taking reload time off, I don't have my book in
front of me, but I seem to recall that that's what quickdraw sounded like
in mine. Perhaps the difference between editions, perhaps I'm wrong.
