Question

Question...mutates has been a bit of a mental issue of mine for
the past few days, and its raised a few doubts in my mind about
the spell. First its always been easier to destroy than create,
so using mutate to remove limbs, remove the mouth, etc... My
question, on all these creations and additions, how does the water mage
know what to change? Does the magic handle the somantics?

Does the magic provide the necesary skeletal attachments for a new
limb? Does is provide the reinforments to other joints for the sudden
shift in center of gravity, also does it provide the ingrained knowledge
of how to walk now that their body is fundamentally different?

Or does it take the mage knowing something of the basic human(oid) form
to make the changes? When someone gets their reflexes boosted for
quickness, how does the magician know what to boost? Does he make
the goo between neurons transmit faster(the main slowing point)?
Same for exceptional agility, how do you increase someones hand/eye
coordination? Exceptional strength, I can see that. Either
you simply make the muscles bigger, a lot bigger, or if you are
truely knowledgeable, do you increase the muscle density, firmer
ligament attachments? What about enhanced eye sight and night vision?
How does a mage know how to improve the eye? Just copy the elf
eye, or by fiat say "I give him elf eyes?" What about for night
vision do you give them cat eyes? etc... Hopefully you see
my point, if the mage must know something, how does he get
this intimate physiological knowledge?

*shrug* anyways,
