I have to strongly disagree with this. The ONLY way those defenses
were available is via magic, that makes them magical. The magic
may have been instantaneous and left a permenant, nonglowing
effect, but it is still magical. To consider it otherwise really
is just playing somantics and trying to skirt around the edge
of what something is. The duck may have no feathers, but it is
still a duck. How you arrive at something is as important as the
final result, and in this case you used some DAMN powerful magics
to do something that could NEVER be done otherwise for a character
without magic.
I've really tried ignoring this, but this thread is just getting
silly and sad. I really do have to ask what people get out of
arguing a pointless topic such as this just for powergaming. Isn't
the purpose of the game to roleplay? Not to eek out every meager
bit of advantage that can be attained by rules that leave some
loop holes, and by circumventing or ignoring the spirit of something?
I've tried to see the fun in this, I really have, but I just don't
see what fun it is in rules lawyering something to the point where
the game is no damn fun except for the rules lawyers to rules lawyer.
This topic is utterly damn pointless(torite armor and magical
item shit), Dan explained it to me years ago when I was writing up
the Gariners, when the information became necessary, because I
was about to make some serious blunders in my writeup for it. He
didn't explain everything, just a few things, and that was enough.
Dan does know what he's talking about, and there is a logic behind
it, what is exactly wrong with leaving it at that and letting
the campaign master do his job?
At first I was not in agreement with Dan, and really hoped that
something good could come of group effort and imput. This isn't
group effort and imput. Its senseless quibbling over nonissues.
We all knew from the beginning that anything we suggest for the
campaign is subject to final approval from Dan. This is a pure
case of it. Dan said no, was firm in that no, and repeated it
on several occasions. End of subject, because of the quibbling
I sadly think we do need a written or at least firm errata
on what the final decision is, but hey, if it buries it, then
by god lets see one.
As for the portals, yeah, I'm curious about what happened, but
not enough to badger Dan over email for days over it. I'll wait
for the adventure to be run to figure it out or to hear
about it from others. Its not going to come out before then, so
give it up! Granted I would have liked to have seen an adventure
summary on it, but hey, ya don't get what ya always want.
Bleh, this was a complete fuckin rant and spew. I'm sorry if I offended
anyone with this, but christ guys, get a damn grip. The matter
will be settled this weekend in an adventure run by Dan. This is
like a damn group of old ladies bitching about their panties riding
up.
