Mapping them would involve gathing every GM that created a portal within
the specificed radius for every year that the setting has been here and
have them do a write up on the world. Doesn't seem practicle.

What is there to be defensive about?  As soon as someone objects to you're
line of thinking they're being 'defensive?'  As for the speculation,
isn't that what we all do here?  I was merely trying to show you a side
that you had not considered.

Actually, as a GM, I'm rather intrigued by the possiblities that it
brings.
