Who is protecting them?  Governments.  Those abilities are just far
to handy to let get knifed by a buncha thugs from the other side of
the planet.  Reverse bounty on anyone who wacks a priest of tarus.

Further, something that Dana setup backin the day..the majority of
tarusian worshippers and priests are also members of the mages guilds.

Further, they had better PR, and reverse bounties on anyone hunting
priests of tarus.  Saying you send your death squads out to collect
heads with no reprocussions is silly.  

Lastly, and part of the PR thing...Priests of Tarus were never the
mind rapers and knowledge police in geleia.  They were archivists and
librarians.  Got that from Dana as well.
