archery
Was just reading up on some archery type stuff over Greg's shoulder.
Seems some woman just set a worlds record by hitting something like
230 out of 260 targets at 70 meters. That means the best of the best
could hit something 88% of the time at 210 feet.
In AQ terms she probably has MOD up the ying yang. I'll grant that the
target area was probably 2-3 inches in diameter and that people are
much bigger. I'll also propose that people move and the circle doesn't.
Leading a target is tricky stuff. Leading a target with a weapon thats
going to take a full second to cross the distance to that target is
trickier still. Also in AQ terms the target she was shooting at had a
VERY low MDV (no armor, designed to take a hit), no MOV and no AGI.
So... with a range of 200 feet on a bow (300 on the big galein version)
we are saying that Joe Average has a 50/50 chance of hitting something
that has an 11MDV at 200 feet. Something with a MDV of the target in
question (I'll give it a 2 for being small) and Joe Average has a 95%
chance of hitting it at 200 feet and doing so at a good firing rate.
So, in summary, Joe Average on Jaern using a mideival bow is better than
our world record setters using modern bows (w/stabilizers) and machined
arrows.
Also, it seems the world record for distance with a Yew warbow is some
ludicrous distance like 450 meters (yeah, meters). Obviously no accuracy
even attempted and this bow had a 200lb draw (meaning strength 18+ to
use and a use rate of 1 in 3 ish). BTW, again a machines arrow.
