New Skills
Warfare Strategy
Base: 400 INT: 5 Warrior
This is the skill in knowing how to formulate and execute a plan
of attack and a strategy for war campaign, both on land and on
sea. The skill encompasses the best way to mobilize and
transport armies, navies, and marine forces. It also
encompasses coordinating the efforts of such.
Land Tactics
Base: 300 INT: 3 Warrior
This skill is knowledge of how to lead men in battle on land. It
encompasses infantry, artillery, siege warfare, cavalry, etc…
This is the skill used once battle is joined, and for formulating
plans of battle.
Sea Tactics
Base: 300 INT: 3 Marine
This skill is the knowledge of ship combat. The effective use of
ship based weapon systems against other ships, how to
conduct a mass sea battle, marine landings, blockades, and land
bombardments.
Logistics
Base: 300 INT:Non Auger
This skill represents the ability to move materials, food,
weapons, and all the supplies necessary for conducting a war.
As with other military skills, success at this skill does not
guarantee final success, but does very much increase the
chances of success.
NOTE on military skills: Skills such as Warfare Strategy, Land
Tactics, Sea Tactics, and Logistics are not absolute guarantees
when used. Just because someone makes their skill check
against these skills does not mean there will always be success.
These skills are meant to be tools for the players and GMs to
use so that many of the ‘trivial details’ that are actually really
important can be glossed over for purposes of game play. So
for example, say that you are conducting a war, and one of your
actors is a supply sergeant who handles all of the food and
weapon shipments. Unless the enemy would have a reason to
disrupt such shipments (and the capacity too) this can simply
be handled by a skill check, the difficulty of getting the supplies
from point A to point B on time is determined by the GM.
As for something like Warfare Strategy, the check is to see if
the players can pull off a strategy that they have drawn up. Or
if desired, to simply gloss over the finer details of the war and
simply fight the battles. The skill also includes things like
recruiting the soldiers, getting them into place for a battle.
Both of the tactics skills are for command use. Getting people
to do what you say when you say it. Also if the players have
run out of ideas, and the GM allows it, a skill roll of high
difficulty to come up with some maneuver that would help in
battle.
