If a Hirudo feeds on you for one round you are completely incapacitated.  If
the Hirudo wishes to continue feeding, in normal circumstances there isn't
much to stop him.  If a Hirudo grapples someone and begins to feed, and if the
victim misses that first 5 or 6d6 STR check, they're screwed.  Under Steve's
rewrite, they have 3 attempts to make that insane check...albeit at one more
die each round.  Better than one check or a 90% probable death.
