RE: Crits and Gems
On Critical Hits:
Hmmm.... Sounds interesting, and worth exploring. I have a couple
of questions, though.
1) What fills the space created by the shift?
2) Knowing that it is possible to have a skill up to 18 (or
more, depending on whom you ask), what about those few with weapon skills
high enough to push the total
above 115?
3) Or, just to explore the other side of the issue, what
about allowing a bit of alteration in the description of the effect if the
situation requires. Obviously, said 4-year-old can't decapitate the warrior
in full plates and great helm with a rock. However, is it not possible that
the 4-year-old could throw the rock through the eye-opening of the helm, hit
the warior in the eye, and cause the warrior to be stunned, loose his
balance, and fall to the ground such that a stone prodruding from the ground
breaks the warriors neck. I know that sounds outlandish, but we are talking
about a critical strike, which is going to happen (statistically speaking)
only once in two thousand rolls. Maybe the description of the crit doesn't
fit, however the fact that it is a critical strike might still have an
effect.
On the Nomadic Matrix Gem:
Do the incants he/she has prior to the acquisition of the gem
increase in rank at at the same rate as the decrease you are proposing? Or,
is the Matrix Gem only able to affect the incants made while in possession
of the Gem? I don't have my book handy, and it's been some time since I
readt that section, however I thought that the Gem only affected the incants
made during the possession of the Gem. However, the decrease in ranks _of
the incants affected by the Gem_ would make sense in the event a nomad
somehow lost possession of a Gem and didn't die.
Just my nickels worth.

Subject: Crits and Gems
Since Jevan and Rob have both returned, we have done some bulshitting
about rules. We came up with a couple things.
Critical Hits:
Move all the "Instant or Prolonged Death" crits up about 15%. This means
the chart would extend from 1%-115%. When you crit someone, you add your
weapon skill to the percentile roll. This would prevent anyone with some
sort of weapon skill from whacking themselves for full weapon damage as
well as keeping some 4 year old with a rock from decapitating some dude in
full plate mail with a great helm.
Nomadic Matrix Gems
They work like any other Matrix Gem with one exception. While a nomad is
holding a Matrix Gem, his incants all have an additional two ranks. If it
is removed from his person, the two ranks deteriorate at the same rate as
if a non-nomad was holding the incant (ie 1 rank per week or whatever it
is).
