RE: Matrix gems

Okay Greg - you got me thinking (that's your fault - half a dozen people on
this list would have warned you against that) about the idea of two people
holding on to one gem and both receiving benefits. Neat idea.

There are three possibilities as far as I see them, with the least likely
first:

Both get the normal benefit from the gem. This seems extremely high-powered,
but, like Kevin said, we're talking about artifacts. Possible, but even if
it is likely I still don't like it.

The other two possibilities I see as having roughly the same likelihood:

1) Only one person can receive the benefit at a time, period.

2) Each person touching the gem gets an equal share of the benefit, rounded
down to discourage such nefarious munchkinism.

Personally, I like number two better. Who says only one person can use a
given gem at a time? (Unless it's in the book and I don't remember, or there
has been exactly that ruling and I don't remember - either one is certainly
possible) I like the idea of a gem having a set amount of power and that
anyone who has the ability to touch the gem during a combat round could
conceivably use a fraction of that power.

Ok, I think that makes a resounding 'NIX' to the attunement idea.
It is apparently highly non-Scottish.

Here's how it should be:

In order to recieve the appropriate benefits of a Matrix Gem, it must be
touching your skin. When it is no longer touching your skin, you no
longer have those benefits. If you touch a Matrix Gem that is not
appropriate to your background, you take 3d6 of damage for every round
that you are touching that gem.
