Re: area of effect
Sorry, but it doesn't work that way. Check the book, page 49 (at least in
mine) section 2.13.6.
Caster specifies direction that the spell travels, and distance to travel
before it activates. The spell then
travels in that direction the specified distance, or until it hits "the
first intervening object in the indicated
direction."
Casting something on the other side of a door, doesn't work, because the
spell hits the door and then activates.
That is, of course, unless I have missed an errata on the subject.
