area of effect
I some questions on area effect spells. For spells that you don't need
LOS to use, can you place a area effect spell(one that doesn't fire
forward from the caster but just appears there) in an area not in LOS.
An example is if there is a door in front of me and there is dirt under
me up to and(hopefully) behind the door, can I liquify the dirt behind
the door?(I don't have a book with me so if liquify requires LOS,
substitute a spell that doesn't require LOS.((I know of one spell
definitly that does but I refuse to mention it on the grounds that errata
is soon to be written on it and it is therefore in discussion))) To add
another variable to the equation(just came from math class) what if I
have been on the other side of the door, am being chased by something,
close the door in hopes to stop or slow the something after me and wish
to slow it down even more with the spell, can I cast a spell on the dirt
I know is there but don't have LOS on, with a spell that doesn't require LOS?
Another question, if you don't understand the language of the speaker of
a divine word does it work?(This is not including if the listener is
under or behind something that would obviously impede the sound of the
divine word)My opinion on the first question is no to the first part(you
don't know if there is something to cast on behind the door) and yes to
the second part. The Divine word acts like Power words in AD&D where it
doesn't matter what I say it in as long as you hear it(clearly and not
through many feet of solid stone),6d6 vs. CSE. I would like some
opinions on both matters but hope not to turn it into a
bloodbath,.......again!
