Re: Businesses and Economics

Wright, I wish you didn't have such a tendency for making statements
into all-or-nothing kinds of things (i.e., reading/hearing "should" as "will").
I try to word things the way I mean them. If I want to say "Well you people
are losers and don't have to do anything at work", I will pretty much say
exactly that. I will not use such wording as to imply that you are merely
"able to produce all sorts of game related things"; that would be grossly
inaccurate.

I took the opportunity to look up the postings of mine that you refer to, and
this is what I found.

>From my posting on July 1st, in response to Sean's 'couple of crazy ideas':

"Uh, ahem, just kidding. Actually, I think that's a pretty decent idea. I've
already incorporated your ideas in with Wright's (re: coinage) and should
have something for general perusal/approval within the next couple weeks.
Note that I will be trying to put everything into a stable enough model such
that any Senior GM (and perhaps some of the more experienced GMs) can
adjudicate money changing in my absence. As for the rest of the economic
issues, I will be researching and modeling various scenarios over the next
few weeks so that I can get a good handle on an economic simulation for
the Isle of Geleia (keeping in mind the description provided by our setting
coordinator, Wright). This simulation should work for business incomes &
expenses, raw material availability, and equipment costs. If anyone has any
contributions they would like to make in terms of ideas or personal experience,
please let me know."

This is _far_ from "Yeah, I'll have it for you in two weeks." I was only referring
to the money changing thing then, the business stuff was going to take a few
weeks just for me to do some modeling and such. Please do not read too
much into my words, Wright.

As regards those wanting to start businesses and those who will be converting
over to the new business rules, I direct you to my posting on July 13th, under
the subject 'RE: Business Setup':

"2)	Business Solution - Not done yet, but I've made some notes and have
much more in my head to write down. Who is this industrious player? Are they
a GM (if so, see note above re: 'insider information')? Other than that, if we really
want to jump the gun and say 'to hell with our original plan of moving in August',
have the player see me and we'll figure out what raw materials, equipment, labor,
and other resources their little business will require and we'll RP the setting up of
the first player business under the new (evolving) business rules."

So, you're saying, and I can see from the adventures that have been posted, that
we have jumped the gun. Okay, so why did you not send Keith to me so we could
get him all set up? I've been trying to accommodate your schedule, despite the
fact that you have pushed it so far forward (again, your originally stated plan was
to time the move to Geleia for August, not the end of June). I will speak to Keith
this Saturday night about his plans for his business, okay? Will that make you
happy? Incidentally, I hope that you caught the end of my first included posting
where I explicitly requested input on business mechanics; as yet, I have not
received any. With some luck, I may be able to have some loose framework
for you to peruse this weekend. At the very least, I will be (and have been)
ready to work with someone directly in setting up their business.
