Re: A couple of crazy ideas...
Money and things. I don't have much to say about money except that a
silver piece (rougeteran) is worth what it is worth due to the metal.
If you take 5 silver pieces and melted them together the mass is worth
5 sp. This mass though would only be accepted by someone with a scale
and a dwarf to verify that it is a blob of silver. If I remember correctly
1sp is about the size of a dime ( I'd like the size of a quarter better
since a chest full of coins would be worth less since the value of the
metal would be less but the volumn the same ).

Or he has a Jewelry skill and verifies it himself. I never cared for
gems as coinage. I would like if a gem was proportionally worth less
on Jearn than say here. (ie a 1 K diamond on Jearn is considered TINY
and worth far less than we have here ). Once again this means that the
overall size of that mound under the dead Dragon is worth a shload less
than one would guess.

I agree that an item on a person does make them potentially more
powerful but there are some items not easily "ratable". An item of
Fluency is either very usefull or of no consequence. Your item of Fireball
has no rate value if the mission has no combat ( but then again most of
your rating is worthless too). Its not that they aren't worth something
its that their value is mission dependent.
Similarly my rate 20 warrior is actually less then rate 20 since I decided
to spend 3 times as many rates to get Witchsmeller then a mage. As a warrior
I spent 7.56 rates where a mage spent 2.52 rates. Do I say I am a
rate 15 ( 14.96 ) since that is the effective use of my spending? No I say
I'm rate 20 and get to face things meant for people 5 rates above me. In
addition that whole spell group probably gives me no "useable rate" since
none of those spells are really combat related. Sure I can use witchsmeller
to notice that invisible mage and counter the -8 to hit so it does have some
combat value ). At low levels my example isn't much but when you get
up there your rate relates less and less to your effectiveness. Just some
spew since people were talking ratings.
