My bad, supposed abuse. I have never seen him do this
or as the GM who was quasi responsible for the knowledge
I would have said something. I thing you are correct in the
fact that when playing a character, it is often the case that
staying in character involves lying (as the character) and
saying things that are exaggeration at best. Too often this
is taken as the Player saying/meaning these things. If
Nico says, "I have the power to rule the world" or "I am the
king of the demons and can command them to incinerate
you", that is a far cry from Joe actually believing or even
trying to do these things.
