One extra bit... we live on a water world. Things dealing with water
should be pretty far along. There are some other island cultures here
on Earth that we could probably model. What about those insane pearl
divers? If there were any reason to dive on Jaern to harvest stuff
(and I'd have to wonder if there isn't) then we've probably learned
techniques to do it efficiently.
