Re: grapple proposal

Joel,

I like the grapple proposal. At first, I thought that strength is a poor
determination of one's grappling ability but then realized that for
someone unskilled in grappling (i.e. without the wrestling skill),
strength is a good reflection of ones ability to muscle someone over.

However, in so far as stressing, since it always lessens your resistance
check, have the opponent remove 2d6 from his "grapple pool" would be more
consistant. Ah, either way. Still works out the same.

I also agree with Wright in that for distinct differences in size, let it
be a GM call. But I would hate to see a GM rule that a 4 ft dwarf has no
chance of grappling to hold a person 8 - 10 ft especially when the dwarf
has a wrestling skill.

Can we include a grapple to throw clarification in the proposal? I've
seen it done several ways in games and am not real sure what the ruling
should be. For and untrained person to throw someone is not an easy
task, yet in games, people have been able to whip others around like a rag
doll. I can see that a grapple to throw is simply knocking someone to
the ground with no appreicable change in distance (and no damage
either). This would be consistant with the average person's abilities
(i.e. anyone can grapple to throw).
