Now, Jevan, before you get your bowels in an uproar, I was referring
to the overall trend, and more specifically, to the major cause of people
leaving (or only playing sporadically). That combined with the lower
sustained turn out from the newbie games bodes poorly for the club.
Since I have not had the time to be involved with the current or last
year's newbie game, I am trying to stem the flow from the main pool.
Certainly, many of the players who no longer show up (or only show
up occasionally) have real-world excuses for this. However, I still
maintain that for the majority (regardless of real-world excuse or not)
the overall flavor of the gaming experience these past two years or so
has left a poor taste in their mouth and little or no reason to return.
Do you understand my point now? It had little to do with the newbies
and more to do with the gaming experience for the rest of the club.

If you are referring to the drop in participation in the newbie games last
year, (from 17 to what?) that had nothing to do with the main body of the
club, and I most certainly was surprised to hear the final number that
actually came to the Saturday game. This year's group has only been
influenced positively by the club (I was there helping with character gen,
then left) and I really don't see your point about newbies not showing up
because of the power gamers. I talked to several of the newbies in person
and the usual response was "I've never played something this complex
before." This would be the major reason for low turn out, or repeat turn
out, and it can hardly be blamed on the main body of the club, but on the
gms that set their view of the game from the beginning.
