Re: Rudrites (ie hirudo)
I personally like the writeup on Hirudo, and I would like to see them as PCs, however
some additional things would need to be changed.
1) No starting as a hirudo except with express, and preferably written permission
from a senior GM. A background hirudo is just plain FUGLY.
I think the major thing for getting this would be writting up a detailed background
for your character. Even the modified hirudo are still pretty ugly.
2) Get rid of the xp bonus for wacking another hirudo. I've seen this a couple of times
of the party with a hirudo in or a hirudo buddy fighting one, then instead of
killing it taking it prisoner and serving it for lunch. This is LAME in my
opinion, esspecially sinces its a free 50K+ xp many times to a character who
is low rate, or worse wasnt' even there. I've also seen adventurers with
the express purpose of hunting down a hirudo for lunch just for the xp it gives.
If hirudo are to be characters, this has to go, with the POSSIBLE stipulation
that the xp is _ONLY_ given by Momma(Rudri) IF the hirudo met in single combat
with 0 outside interference. No buddies walking up and immobilizing the actor
hirudo, no holding it for someone, etc... You want the xp, you take the risks
and do it yourself, no help. Possibly a further limitor of no magical items
either. Hirudo are supposed to be independants, not dependant on friends or
items.
3) The social stigmas of hirudo should be played up more. They aren't your buddy, they
are out to wreck the place(destroy the works of men and gods). Keep'em evil.
This will however severely wreck a party. I personally hate party disunity,
and hirudo are all about disunity.
*shrug* I guess in the final analysis I'm against it, mainly for the 3rd reason. I'm
whole heartedly for the notion that no priest should be a carbon copy of
another, but I do STRONGLY feel that priests should be accountable to their gods
and should put the wishes of the god first, after all, 1 in 27 times Ra is
watching is nonpriestly worshippers, and everytime he gives a spell he's watching
the priestly ones.
